Personal, Social and Health Education

Intent

Personal, social and health education (PSHE) aims to support pupils to become healthy, independent and responsible members of community. We encourage our pupils to play a positive role in contributing to the life of the school. Pupils take part in discussions, investigation and problem solving activities. The children are encouraged to take part in a range of practical activities that promote active citizenship. We organise classes in such a way that pupils are able to participate in discussion to resolve conflicts or set agreed classroom rules of behaviour.

At Saxon Mount School within KS4, the curriculum allows for the teaching of both Relationships and Sex Education as well as Personal, Social, Health and Education. Pupils will cover a variety of topics; safety in forming and maintaining relationships, the characteristics of healthy relationships, how relationships may affect mental and physical health. There is also a focus on healthy bodies and lifestyles, including keeping safe, puberty, drugs and alcohol education, healthy minds, including emotional wellbeing, resilience, economic wellbeing and financial capability. Saxon Mount aim to better prepare our pupils for life beyond the supportive structure of its education improving individual life chances.
